After the Dissolution of the Monasteries Shipton manor had been granted by the Crown in 1548 to Sir Thomas Palmer, after whose attainder and execution for high treason in 1553 it was resold by the Crown in 1557. After passing through several hands it eventually (1580) came into the possession of John Lutwyche.

Did Ann Walker change her will?
In May of 1836, Ann would make a new version of her will. Some of the changes were mentioned by Anne Lister in her journal.
Where is Gentleman Jack buried?
Her body was taken to Moscow for burial, but later her remains were brought back to England. She was then laid to rest in Halifax Parish church on the 29th April 1841. In 2010, she was the subject of a film and documentary that were shown by the BBC. The story of Anne is being brought to TV screens across the world.

Anne was heart-broken at Mariana’s infidelity. Aside from jealousy, Mariana’s marriage had other consequences for Anne. In 1820 Charles contracted a venereal disease, apparently from a servant, and Anne caught the incurable “venereal taint” from Mariana, with which she remained infected all her life.
