Where is the Lee Valley velodrome for the Commonwealth Games?
Lee Valley VeloPark is at the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has a velodrome and BMX racing track, which have been used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road course and 5 miles (8 km) of mountain bike trails.
Why is the velodrome not in Birmingham?
The reasons for doing so are as follows: The West Midlands Region has a population of 5.6 million people but there is no indoor velodrome within the area. Birmingham also does not have a single banked cycling track. Track cycling within the West Midlands can only develop by having investment into modern facilities.
Do you need tickets for the Commonwealth Games cycling road race?
There will be parts of the course where it will be completely free for spectators and you won’t need a ticket for these areas, however you will require a ticket if you want to watch from or near the official start and finish area of the Road Race.
