How long is the San Diego Zoo Safari?
The Zoo and Safari Park are approximately 30 miles apart. Although one can easily enjoy a full day or more at both parks, to visitors with limited time we recommend a minimum of three to four hours to see some of the Zoo and a minimum of four to six hours to experience a portion of the Safari Park.

Whats the difference between San Diego Safari and Zoo?
The San Diego Zoo has animals from all over the world, including Australia, Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, and more. Whereas the Safari Park focuses on animals from mostly arid environments, like the African and Asian Savannas. Visitors can easily spend a full day seeing all the animals at each park.
Are safaris at San Diego Safari Park worth it?
Visiting San Diego Zoo Safari Park is worthwhile for animal lovers. It’s famous for large field enclosures where herds roam free. You’ll like it if you enjoy close-up contact with wildlife, few crowds, long walks and have 4 to 6 hours to spend. Paid Safari tours are recommended but not necessary.

It is possible to walk the entire park in one visit. The Safari Park has three main areas. The upper area sits above the rest of the park and features the new Australian exhibits, gardens, Condor Ridge and Tiger Trail. The lower area is home to the Lion Camp, elephants and the African Outpost.

Do you need a reservation to go to the San Diego Safari Park?
Reservations are not required to visit the Zoo or Safari Park. Per CDC and San Diego County guidance, facial coverings are recommended for anyone in an indoor space. Unvaccinated guests are required to wear facial coverings while inside any indoor space. There are no out-of-state visitor restrictions.

San Diego Safari Park admission tickets include Africa Tram, Cheetah Run, all tours & attractions, entertainment, animal encounters & kids playgrounds. But… any activity with “Safari” in its name requires payment in addition to the cost of admission. Parking is not included.

Parking fee is $15 per vehicle; $20 for RV parking. Preferred parking is once again available on select weekends and holidays, weather and attendance permitting.
Is the tram free at Safari Park?
Riding the tram is no extra cost. The caravan safari tour cost extra but it is worth it. From the free tram you can see some of the animals but in the caravan safari tour you are among the animals and get to feed giraffes and a rhinoceros if you wish. If you are looking to save money the free tram is the way to go.
