What kind of pill is Qlaira?
Qlaira is a combined oral contraceptive, commonly known as a ‘birth control pill’ or ‘the Pill’. Qlaira is used to prevent pregnancy. It is also used for the treatment of heavy and/or prolonged menstrual bleeding (not caused by any underlying disease) in women who wish to use oral contraception.
What are the benefits of Qlaira?
Qlaira is a combined pill so may be able to help manage acne and ease symptoms of PCOS , PMS and PMDD . Compared to other combined pills, Qlaira may reduce the likelihood of withdrawal bleeding. This may be seen as a benefit for women who have heavy, painful periods or who want to avoid a bleed.
Does Qlaira cause weight gain?
Other possible side effects: The following side effects have been linked with the use of Qlaira: Common side effects (between 1 and 10 in every 100 users may be affected): headache; abdominal pain; acne; no periods, breast discomfort, painful periods, irregular bleeding (heavy irregular bleeding); weight gain.

Tablet taking has to start on day 1 of the woman’s natural cycle (i.e. the first day of her menstrual bleeding). If Qlaira is taken in this manner, the woman is protected against pregnancy immediately.
You will be protected against pregnancy immediately and do not need to use extra contraception. If you start taking Qlaira later than 28 days after the birth or abortion, you will need to use extra contraception eg condoms for the first nine days of taking the Qlaira tablets.
