We do not permit our guests to hike down to the bottom of the Crater, primarily for safety reasons. Also, scientific research is being conducted inside the Crater on a year-round basis. There are 3 lookout points with spectacular views of the Crater. There are also great views if you take one of our guided rim tours.

It’s not possible to visit the Arizona Meteor Crater without paying. The area is fenced off unless you drive through the parking lot and pay on arrival.

You are able to walk around a small part of the rim of the crater, learn some fun facts and the history. Then you can always take a look from the observation deck whenever you are done. But this made it worth the $18 per person.

Is there a lot of walking at Meteor Crater?
There are is no hiking around the crater, private land only. State park is $18 for adults and offers tours, but none descend into the crater. Interactive museum.

Some of them contain shock-melted rock along with debris from the meteorite. The crater has changed dramatically since it formed. Erosion and the accumulation of sediments have played major roles in remaking Meteor Crater. Debris has collected at the base of the crater’s walls.
