Jennifer Merendino’s world came crashing down when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 – only five months after marrying the love of her life, Angelo. As the newlyweds battled her treatments together, they found comfort in the news that she was cancer-free nearly a year after they were married.
Life went on and they put the pieces of their lives back together. But normalcy didn’t last for too long when, in 2010, Jennifer was told the cancer had returned. And this time it had metastasized.
When it returned for the second time, Angelo remembers friends and family seemed almost in disbelief of the devastation the disease had ravaged on his wife. Helpless, her husband watched her struggle through intense pain and nausea during treatment as the cancer spread throughout her body.
To help them understand what Jennifer was going through, Angelo asked his wife if he could document her battle and share the photos with friends and family. Jennifer agreed in hopes of sharing the truth.
Angelo’s photos offer a rare glimpse into the daily struggles of a person going to war with – and losing to – cancer. Jennifer died at the age of 40.
